What is the best time of year to visit the Butterfly Conservatory?
My birthday is April 23 and I love butterflies. I want to go to the Butterfly Conservatory for my party because it's my 13th birthday and I really want to do something I will enjoy (Most of my other birthdays have sucked) so I was wondering if late April would be an okay time to go. Like, will they be active as opposed to just sitting on a tree or whatever because I want them to like, fly around me and stuff.|||because its a "conservatory" its sheltered from the elements.. the butterfly's are there year round.. however the "humans" whom work there do have regular hours so anytime is a good time.. as long as you call ahead.|||spring its a great time to go in april|||Early in the day is the best time, assuming it is not in a controlled environment.
What else should I have in my butterfly garden?
I'm going to start a butterfly garden, and I was wondering what else I should have in it. I've done the research and decided what flowers I will have, but what else? I read on one website that a bird bath would give them water. But that seems it would attract birds who would eat the butterflies. A few miles south there is a butterfly conservatory, they might have somethings to help get started. They had sheets that listed flowers butterflies like. What should I get?|||Butterflies have a hard time drinking from a birdbath because of the way their mouths function. Rather, use a large clay pot saucer filled with play box sand and keep moist, but not wet.
Also some rusty/rustic metal scultures of butterflies could be nice as a way to "announce" your butterfly garden.
Some species of butterflies have only one flower source of food; for example, the endangered Karner Blue butterflies needs native lupines (a large cluster), the Monarch butterfly and milkweeds.
Also some butterflies like to rest on larger shrubs and even trees.|||I know if you look online you can find a simple butterfly feeder you can make.

Black Swallowtail likes purple colored flowers, red clover and indian paint brush|||Butterfly bushes, of course! You can buy them at most nurseries, and they come in several colors. I also planted dill, which got rather tall, but one particular type of butterfly (that I know of, anyway) laid eggs in it, they hatched, and the caterpillars feed on it, then they go nearby (or ON the dill) to build their coccoons! It's an awesome feeling watching a butterfly hatch, dry it's wings, and go flying away! Also, I've heard that butterflies love damp sugar cubes.|||i seen a show on animal planet called backyard habitat. once they made a butterfly habitat. they mentioned that you should also have plants for shelter and food for the caterpillars. they had a really easy way to make a watering area that wouldnt attract the birds. for more information and how they did theirs (for ideas) go to :

have fun and enjoy|||I have Echinacea "Magnus" (purple coneflowers) that are gorgeous and always popular with the butterflies. Rudbeckiea "Goldsturn" (Black-eyed susans) too. Both these flowers create amazing clumps of colour and are super hardy.|||Butterflies like flat flowers. Also you can buy butterfly houses too.

I transplanted my butterfly bush, the branches are dead from the winter should i trim them?
When I transplanted it, it was already brown and the branches were dead any advice to get it growing and alive, I'm in the process of making a butterfly garden and this bush will really complete the garden and make it look beautiful!!! and if you know of any other plants that attract a lot of butterflies let me know!|||The Butterfly shrub produces flowers on new wood so it will be fine to trim it to just above ground level if you want to. Mine has died back to the ground each winter. I like it, but have since made a Honeysuckle the main shrub as it is more reliably hardy and also attracts hummingbirds as well as butterflies.
I would be concerned that your shrub may have a disease as you mentioned it was not looking well before being transplanted and it may not come back if the damage is not due to the winter.
I used a variety of native meadow flowers in our zone 4 garden complete with a sunning rock as the butterflies seem to enjoy the heat.

What is the meaning of a butterfly landing on your shoulder?
Today as I was standing outside with some friends, there was about 23 of us. A monarch butterfly fluttered around us and landed on my shoulder, rested for only a few seconds and fluttered away. My friends were trying to figure out what it may mean if anything? I think it was just a gentle reminder from above that it will all be okay. Sometimes we just need something to help lift our spirits. What kind of butterfly bush is this?
What is the name of this butterfly bush? It has yellow and pink flowers in the bloom and They are honeycomb. The flowers do not smell good and there's always a ton of bees and butterflies. Can u help?|||It's an Asian butterfly bush otherwise known as Buddleia Asiatica.

Can an african butterfly fish live with arowanas and oscars?
im planning to get an african butterfly fish but i dont know if it could live in the same tank with a 4inch jardini,a 5inch silver aro, and a 3inch oscar. And what kind of food does an african butterfly fish eat? And do they the just stay close to the sufface and not move around alot?|||i hope you have a large tank.
But it wont work, jardini arowanas are extremely aggressive and when it gets larger, it will not tolerate other tankmates, so the silver, oscar and butterfly fish will probably be killed. Did you do any research on jardinis? i certainly didnt when i bought my first,and he ended up killing two silver arowanas.
Overall it sounds like a bad idea, as you wont usually see a fully grown 4 foot silver arowana and a butterfly fish get along. He will be eatten.
But again i hope you have a large tank, and a seperate tank for the jardini.|||As for now, your butterfly should be fine while it is small. It would be such a threat for your african buttefly fish with the silver arowana. It might be better in a species tank.
ABF (african butterfly fish) eats mainly instects that fall to the water. I would recommend you give him some small crickets. For now, give him some megaworms. They usually stay close to the surface. They may not leave the surface. They will move all over the surface.|||3 INCH OSCAR IS THE PROBLEM!

THE BIGGER HIS MOUTH GETS|||I have to agree with the idea of having both Jardini and Arowana in the same tank is a bad mix and then add in the fact that you are putting in a fish that has a max size of 4 inches I can't see that fish making it one year in there. The Jardini and the Silver South american by far will progress differently. Jardini have the same body build as their closer related Asian Arowana counterparts. The silvers however do not and tend to grow much larger. I'd assume you have around a 180 or 200 plus gallon set up to house these fish, or you if they are in like a 75 now, realize that they are not going to be able to stay in that tank long term wise. You're silver south american grows slower then the jardini, but has a larger potential. Not to mention as the poster above said, they tend to, though not always, be more aggressive in nature then then silvers. They will go after food below where the silver will spend the majority of it's time on the surface. I think you'd end up with a fight on your hand once they begin to hit lengths over a foot long. I've got four silvers now in a 180 and in the bigger three, they are now at about 12 inches solid. They are beginning to show signs of tail nipping occasionally, so if there was a jardini in that mix, like with your tank, you could full well expect that to become much worse.
The main point is that if you add your African butterfly, it's most likely going to end up being a tasty meal for one of those fish in your tank. I'd really think over housing the silver and jardini in seperate tanks though. They are both wonderful fish IMO and it'd be a shame to see either die from aggression.

What flowers attract a monarch butterfly?
We built butterfly houses and we want to attract butterflies to it. The butterflies go in to it then lay their eggs then leave. A while after caterpillars come crawling out.|||Milk weed is the number one plant for butterflies.That plant is natural for them.A butterfly bush is nice and will help but they lay eggs on milkweed and the caterpillars eat the plants leafs.|||Butterfly Bush.
