What exactly do butterfly tattoos on females symbolize and what would be the masculine/male version tattoo?

I noticed a lot of females with butterfly tatoos. Why are those so popular with young ladies and what would be equivalent on the male side?Like what tattoos do young males have thats almost like females and their butterfly tattoos?|||It's an interesting question, but the truth is... it's a popular design that women like, more than anything else. Kinda like faries or dolphins. They're just pretty, and women go for that kinda stuff. It's kinda like guys having skulls and dragons. Those are popular masculine tattoos worn almost exclusivly by men. The television shows/soap operas would have you belive otherwise, but most people just get what they like. That's the real truth of it, in most cases. But because of TV shows, everyone is looking for 'hidden meaning'. Go figure.|||i have a butterfly tattoo on my 4arm.. its kinda trible looking.. but more color.. i hadda $100 to blow. lol. so yah... but the colors have meanings.. i moved 3hrs away 4rm home, so pink wuz 4 my bestfriend, purple wuz 4 mom, %26amp; blue wuz 4 my gf at the time.. whole reason i moved...but yah lol..

|||Butterflies tattoos can have a lot of meanings, it all depends on where it is. If a female has a butterfly on her lower back, it means she wants you to sodomize her. If she has it between her breast, she wants you to titi **** her. If she has it on her toes, then she wants you to piss on her feet.

|||Isn't there 'spose to be a symbolism attached to butterfly tattoos? Like a metamorphosis between caterpillar and a butterfly and a young lady blossoming into a woman and getting a butterfly tattoo to represent that? IE: http://www.checkoutmyink.com/tattoos/stark247/butterfly-wings-butterfly

|||i am actually getting a butterfly tattoo between my shoulder blades on saturday. for me i personally love butterflies, thier beauty and freedom also yes it is something that represents transformation and perseverence of changing into something new. so its not un-original if it has meaning.

|||The meaning was that it indicated prostitutes from the general public, from what I've read. A lot of people get them simply 'cause they like them. That's the only meaning a tattoo needs IMO

|||She likes to experience the butterfly freedom and the butterfly tattoo conveys that very well. The colorful butterfly tattoo is fluttering its wings to fly high. Its sight of free flying is pleasing to every eye.

|||I don't know maybe a dragon? When I was younger I really liked butterflies because to me they represent beauty and transformation (from a caterpillar to a butterfly). In various cultures the symbol of a butterfly is actually not pleasant. In Japan, a butterfly represents a Geisha. Also the song Mariposa Traicionera by Mana gives a really bad meaning to females as butterflies.|||It means that they are in a secret group of female ninjas that conspire against you and only you. They try to think of ways to make your life a living hell. The male equivalent is the mom tattoo on the buff dudes. These people are a group of men who try to make your life a living hell.|||You'd have to ask that person. Many times they mean absolutely nothing but 'butterflies are pretty'.

Sometimes they might mean more.

There's no giant male to female tattoo translation book. I guess you could say a spider kind of matches - another bug, but more 'macho'.|||I have a butterfly tattoo, and the reason for getting it is simply that I liked it.|||it symbolizes un-originality.
