Butterfly ?

i can freestyle, elementary backstroke, both sidestrokes, and backstroke and now i'm trying to learn the butterfly? tips on how to learn this? i understand the arm motions but for some reason my kicks don't want to reach surface. ANY tips at all are greatly appreciated!|||I begin teaching butterfly by having my students "wiggle" or swim like a mermaid. With your hands at your side start your kick with your nose and let the "wiggle" move down your body - nose to chest to abs to hips to thighs down to your toes. Practice this until you are more comfortable - then try to add in your arms.|||if you're actually going to learn butterfly, you cant just constantly kick and just add in the arms and hope you're doing fly.

what helped me the most was knowing how and when to kick.

first knowing how to kick, focus on using your core and letting the motion whip down to your feet. you really dont want to kick with the knees at all.

second, you just have to know how the motions of fly work. it sort of consists of two motions, a downwards and an upwards motion. as you go down, you make a kick, and as you come back up you make another kick.

one kick is as you finish your armstroke, and the second is basically when your arms enter back into the water.

focus on doing the right kicks at the right time, you'll get butterfly down in no time. if you have a coach, you'll know you're doing it right when your butt comes out of the water during your downwards motion.|||well to learn butterfly stroke you need alot of stamina and the breathing practice should be done at regular intervals by dipping your head inside the water after 10 seconds this would also help you improve the coordination of your brain and body .well if you dunt get the leg movements its simple you need to move your hips and the legs in a wave ,like a dolphin .|||the farther you reach in front of you causes your legs to follow which make them rise to the surface and make sure you timing is right with your kick and your stroke! hope this helps....... if you need more info you can email me at sevannahswims@yahoo.com|||join a swim team or take lessons. they will tell you|||Think of yourself as a dolphin or a whale (no comment on

anything but your swimming). Move both legs and feet together in a wave motion (pointing your toe is an important

aspect to this). Practice this with a kickboard in front of you,

face, in the water. After awhile you should get the hang of it. if

not, purchase a unifin the fits over both feet, and try the above.
